Your Body is Your Guide
From the beginning of my practitioner journey at The Rolfing Institute in Boulder, Colorado, the core teaching message was beautifully clear:
You’re not here to fix people.
I learnt instead that our bodies are the healers
The power of Rolfing was surprising and profound and as a rookie Rolfer I was deeply inspired by this simple and far-reaching lesson. But what I soon noticed was how automatic it can be for people to look outside of themselves for the answers.
When I began my Somatic Experiencing (SE) training and added the exceptional work of Dr Peter Levine to my CV, I learnt to read the nervous system in an additional way.
Supporting my clients’ return to health and alignment, while teaching them how their bodies are the healer, has become central to my career over the decades. It’s the unique combination of these two modalities that has brought about my own personal and professional transformation.
My evolution as a practitioner and curiosity about empowerment orientates new directions in my work. I want to inspire a shift in awareness about what happens when we visit a health care practitioner.
We can so easily lose our agency when we hand it over to the expert, forgetting that we are the expert of our bodies.
The Kincode™ is a re-emergence of this original lesson and initial message that your body has what you need. In Rolfing we talk about how gravity is the healer, in SE we honour the nervous system’s innate self-regulatory capacity as the internal guide, and
within The Kincode ethos I teach that intuition is the way into your health instinct and healing.
Practitioners, guides and healers are invaluable in helping to point the way and teach us how to decode the signs from the body. However it’s crucial to remember that a connection to our intuition and body's wisdom is ultimately what we need.
I work with a lot of bodyworkers, therapists, coaches, thought leaders and teachers and together we have to remember our job is to empower our clients to heal themselves. We do this through introducing them to a curiosity for the power of both self-knowledge and body reverence.
We have a multi-trillion pound wellness industry with thousands of different practitioners offering hundreds of treatment options. When we want to invest in our health we are often disarmed by a saturated market that provides a plethora of choices that result in the consumer feeling overwhelmed and immobilised.
How are we supposed to know which way to go?
Imagine for a moment if your body knew? Learning how to listen and interpret the signals from your body will help you develop the intuition to connect with its needs.
The body has its own healing force.
My role as a practitioner is to guide and teach people how to become empowered in the relationship with their body and their health.
